With any legal situation, there are many stages and each case is totally unique. However, there are common stages that each case may go through, whether a personal injury case or not.
Our team of attorneys here at Pipas Law has the knowledge and expertise to guide you through every stage of the process. To better equip our clients for their personal injury cases, we have outlined a typical progression for how a case typically unfolds.
To begin seeking compensation for a personal injury case, we start with a consultation. This is where you meet with one of our attorneys to discuss the details of your case. Both parties will be able to determine if they are a good fit and would like to work together further.

From there, your attorney will draft up paperwork to read through and sign. This will be your legal agreement to work with one another. Details about your case and what both parties expect from one another will be included to hold each other accountable throughout the process.
During the consultation and paperwork stage, your attorney will likely mention how important it is that you seek the medical care that you require to get you back to feeling as good as you did before the accident. Your medical treatment may extend throughout your case, it truly depends on the severity of your injuries. But it is a crucial step that should not be skipped.
In a personal injury case, it is our job as your attorney to work with your insurance company to file a claim and seek the compensation you need. We provide your insurance company with the details and documentation that are needed. We investigate your case and formulate a settlement number that we believe to be fair based on your injuries, damages, and necessary medical treatments.
As each case is different, a successful settlement is dependent on multiple factors. Some cases reach an adequate settlement with little fuss, while others may require us to go a step further.
If a settlement cannot be reached, your case may be taken to litigation. Similarly to a settlement, the goal of going to litigation is to get our clients the best possible outcome. The litigation process does include additional steps than are outlined here. In short, your attorney will present evidence and provide proof that you are owed a certain amount of compensation. Witnesses may be called to testify and the case could make it all the way to trial.
Ultimately our only goal in a personal injury case, no matter the steps it takes, is to provide our clients with the most compensation possible. We want you to heal any injuries you may have sustained and feel as financially secure as you did before the accident. We consider all of these factors throughout each stage of the process, whether your case is settled early on or if we take it all the way through litigation, we will get you the compensation you deserve.
